Sita Ashoka

It is an important tree in the cultural traditions of India . Leaf

The plant has linear needle like thick leaves, ever green and are generally 2–4 cm
long, 2–5 mm broad. Dark green above and white underside with dense, short, woolly hair.

Leaves are alternate, paripinnate, copper red when young and green when mature, and 30–60 cm long. Bark on old stems is dark green in colour, often marked by bluish and ash white patches of lichens.

Flowers

Ashoka tree produces flowers from February to April. A bean-like fruit appears and matures from June to August. The Ashoka flowers come in heavy, lush bunches. They are bright orange-yellow in color , turning red before wilting.

How to grow

They are mostly outdoor plants and can be grown in containers or on the ground with both seedlings and stem planting techniques. This self sustaining plant needs watering only when soil is dry. Weekly once water and sunlight is sufficient care the plant asks for.
